WHAT’S IN YOUR TOOLBOX?

Long before Cro-Magnon and Neanderthals walked upright, pre-hominids were already developing early language, or rather, languages - slowly and in amazing ways. Primal animal sounds developed nuances of pitch and cadence, emphasis and vocal intensity, repetition and pauses – allowing critical communication among members of a community. With language, our progenitors could exchange ideas about food and water, shelter, danger and defense. With the added use of facial expressions, posture and gestures, what we call “body language,” they could convey notions of distance, direction, time, emotions, activities, sensations and so much more. Language keeps becoming more subtle, more precise and more versatile.

Of the myriad functions that language has served in human development, persuasion is its highest and noblest application. Persuasion is the skill whereby one person, through refined sounds (words) and manner of delivery, can change the way in which another person thinks about something. We can persuade people that we are correct. For obvious reasons, knowledge of the psychology and the techniques of persuasion belongs in every doctor’s toolbox.

In board rooms, court rooms and operating rooms, doctors must present their ideas in a clear, credible and unambiguous way. Ineffective or reluctant public speakers are always at a disadvantage. Learn what doctors need to know about persuasive and compelling speech.

Public Speaking SEMINARS & WORKSHOPS

Our unique interactive programs use creative drills to reinforce the basic elements of oral persuasion: theories and themes, repetition and emphasis, primacy and recency, eye contact and body language, vocabulary and descriptive details, cadence and voice. In a rapid-fire format where lectures are bare-bones and brief, the participants get plenty of opportunity to practice on their feet specific skills that will make them more persuasive communicators.

Note-taking and gum-chewing are not allowed, as success depends on ready class participation and focused attention. In return, results are guaranteed.
